About the author

Rudy J. F. Burgmeijer (1944) was originally trained as a teacher of biology and Dutch language, but after e few years he switched to nursing and later to medicine. He specialised in Child Public Health and in Vaccinology. In the field of vaccinologie he has worked as Head of the Laboratory for Vaccine Clinical Trials of the State Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), as Medical Director of the former governmental Netherlands Vaccine Institute (NVI) and as Qualified Person Pharmacovigilance (QPPV) of Bilthoven Biologicals, the privatised successor of NVI, now belonging to the Serum Institute of India.
After his official retirement in 2009 he continued to act as QPPV for Bbio, was freelance Consultant in Vaccinology and guest lecturer at several Dutch universities.

From the first edition (1993) till the last (2013) he was editor-in-chief and (co-)author of many chapters
of the Dutch-Flemish Handboek Vaccinaties, the first –and still only– textbook in Dutch language.
His passion for collecting medical stamps goes back to the time he was a medical student.
